Drunk Bremerton Woman Tries to Become ‘Ultimate Fighting' Champ

BREMERTON

A 20-year-old woman who said she "wanted to learn how to fight" hit several people at a Saturday night party in Bremerton where the group was watching "Ultimate Fighting Championships" on television, according to the Bremerton Police Department.

An officer responded to a report of an assault at Park Avenue and Sixth Street just after midnight on Sunday. A witness said the victim, a woman, had left in a white vehicle. The officer stopped the car on the Warren Bridge a few minutes later.

The male driver said he did not know the woman and that she had flagged him down for a ride. The woman had blood on her feet and hands and did not have shoes on. She was crying and smelled like alcohol, the officer said.

When the officer asked the woman what happened, she said had been at a party in the Manette area watching "Ultimate Fighting Championships." She said she was drunk and "started fighting" with some of the other people at the party.

Her boyfriend then started hitting her, she said. He then took her outside to his car and drove her to his apartment in the 200 block of Fifth Street. She said he threatened to "kill both of us," so she ran away from his apartment to the nearby 7-Eleven store, where she picked up a ride with the man in the white car.

The officer then went to the woman's apartment. He arrested the boyfriend, who said he had taken the woman to the party earlier.

She had been drunk and was watching "Ultimate Fighting Championships," he said. She then tried to fight everyone in the room and one man had grabbed her. The boyfriend said he tried to stop the man but the man punched him.

The boyfriend said he took the woman back to his car and carried her to his apartment because she had a cut on one of her feet. They got into an argument and the woman ran away. He said his girlfriend punched him while she was "fighting" and he had a swollen upper lip, the officer said.

The boyfriend's brother told the officer the same story. He said his brother did not assault his girlfriend and that "she was the one fighting everyone." The boyfriend said he didn't want to press charges. He said his girlfriend "didn't know what she was doing" and "it was the alcohol" that caused his girlfriend to hit people at the party, the report said.

The woman was taken to Harrison Medical Center and the officer said he will forward the report to the Kitsap County Prosecuting Attorney's office.

How very bizarre. He gets arrested with witnesses saying he did nothing wrong. The girl goes to the hospital and no jail? There is something very wrong with this picture. No wonder the men in this country are so afraid; they can't even take a punch for, carry, give medical aide to his girl without being the one to get arrested. If I was the young man, I would stay as far away from this girl as possible.

This is getting ridiculous! Time and again we hear about a couple at odds, information shows she is 50% or more responsible, but only the guy is arrested.

This is a put down to law abiding women, sexism by the police officers, propagates the idea that discrimination is OK, teaches women that they can legally manipulate the system to their advantage and leaves many males with the idea that their government and justice is on the side of the devil.

It won't stop until women who believe in equality, abhor domestic violence, and want to stop its perpetuation by example to kids start speaking out.

Shame on the female politicians that do nothing to stop this miscarriage of justice. The male politicians are too afraid of losing an election if they upset the feminists.

I'd like to know why there were no charges for the obviously drunk 20 year old female. Was I not informed of a change in drinking age in this state?

And why weren't the party throwers cited for serving to a minor?

And, the obvious, why is this girl free while the boyfriend is in jail for attempting to help the situation and the girl?

*sigh* Anyone working on a bigger handbasket? I think we're gonna need more room.

The lead in on the front page states the boyfriend was arrested, but the story says no one was arrested - only that the underaged drunk and psychotic female was taken to the hospital.

What happened?

Read it again, nkroadcaptain.

Here is another example of "selective enforcement". The boyfriend gets arrested. This girl is taken to the hospital and charges being forwarded to the prosecutor's office? After she gets released from the hospital, she should be arrested for assault on the party goers and charges for being a minor drinking alcohol.

Ridiculous for sure!

Thanks, jt... easy to miss that sentence when later it speaks of the witnesses and that he doesn't want to press charges.

Was he released on the spot? Doesn't state bail or booking.

the guy was released once the truth was found out and the girl will be the one arrested. The whole story isn't in the paper...duh
Police are required to act on what they are told. He could've just taken the guy to jail and not investigated it to get the truth so the right person is charged.

“The officer then went to the woman's apartment. He arrested the boyfriend, who said he had taken the woman to the party earlier.” Why? She was drunk, confessed to be combative and you arrest the boyfriend; that makes a lot of sense. Base your decision on a drunk’s word. What about a little investigation before an arrest.

Bremtown,
Thanks for the update and pointing out that this cop straightened the situation out and that a bad cop wouldn't have. My point about frequent, blatant sexism in domestic violence situations still stands.

This is a convoluted story and I'm convinced it has not been reported as clearly as it could have been, but the cop was not unreasonable here. The law says he MUST make an arrest. When he first encountered the situation here was a girl with blood all over her crying and blaming the boyfriend as she tells this wild story. So he arrests the boyfriend based on the available evidence at the time. As he continues to investigate it turns out the boyfriend has a different story AND this is verified independently. THEN the boyfriend says he doesn't want to press charges. Does this sound like he is still under arrest? I don't think so. The next order of business is to get the girl medical help, which they did. Just because you are arrested does not mean you are taken into custody and sent to jail. Just because you are NOT arrested doesn't mean cherges won't be brought against you later on. It seems to me the cop followed the law here, and he also followed the trail and rectfied the situation. When it became obvious the boyfriend was innocent, he let him go.

An arrest with charges dropped is still an arrest and is on his record. So now this poor guy has to say he was arrested for domestic violence on any new job application then give the details. This could still hurt him.

Isn't it great that her first reaction, even when drunk, was to cry "abuse! by a MAN!!!" when the cops showed up?

You've come a long way, baby.

Warning: alcohol may cause stupidity.

Madoak... that arrest does not stay on your record. The cop is given evidence to "arrest" you then questions you after reading your your rights. You give your half of the story and it appears the original person wasn't being truthful so you are released. That doesn't stay on your record.

Biteme...
Not true, it doesn't affect your "arrest record" when a records check is done on a person it shows charges and the outcome. (Guilty, not guilty, dropped).
He wasn't charged by the prosecutor. The only record is the report which lists him as the victim not as an arrested person.
So your survey is wrong.
If anyone sends a "records check" to the Bremerton Police for him it still won't show him as an arrested person but instead as being involved and being the victim.
He is in no way listed anywhere as having been arrested. Maybe detained for an investigation but not arrested. I think the Sun may not have the proper wording for what happened.
